WHO IS IT FOR?

This course is for primary and secondary school teachers and headmasters who want to make their schools more open to natural based learning

WHAT TO EXPECT?

Most of the activities will be held outside in nature, parks and playgrounds. Some of the theoretical modules will be held in an indoor classroom where we will outline some of the most important issues and solutions concerning the play-based learning in an outdoor environment. The practical workshops aim is to provide you with new skills relevant for confident and successful outdoor teaching by using more games in your everyday teaching.

This course includes presentations, outdoor workshops, and field trip(s). The course program includes a guided town tour, a field trip and an excursion (optional).

On your field trip(s) you will have the opportunity to gather some first-hand knowledge from experienced instructors concerning safety precautions and risk assessment, use of outdoor equipment, survival basics, orienteering, and small tips and tricks that could ease your outdoor ventures.

NOTE:

This proposed plan covers a wide range of topics related to creating an outdoor classroom, equipping teachers with tools and knowledge to effectively and safely utilize outdoor spaces for educational purposes. Given the dynamic nature of the course, adaptations can be made based on participants’ specific needs and resources available in your location.

WHY THIS COURSE?

This teachers’ course is focused on implementing outdoor game-based learning in your teaching. The participants will learn about the benefits of outdoor play in children’s development.

We will encourage teachers to implement more exploratory learning and learning through outdoor play in their schools. We will also give participants more information about the theory of games, how to design games, what is the difference between unstructured and structured games. What is the Deep Play and how to recognize it. Teachers will also learn how to make a risk assessment when planning games. We will also offer answers to most frequent questions about game-based learning in an outdoor teaching and give teachers the tools for adaptation to a new way of teaching. 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The main objective of this training course is to provide a specific focus on outdoor education for preschool, primary and secondary schools.

The learning objectives are:

  • Understand kids needs to play for health and for competencies development.
  • Understanding the natural ways of learning trough play and exploring
  • Know how to support the learning process as outdoor teacher.
  • Know how to implement game and exploratory based learning in an outdoor classroom
  • Know how to make a risk assessment
  • Learn to organize spaces and materials to provide better learning opportunity for children.
  • Know and understand theory and methodology about play-based learning in an outdoor environment.
  • Explore and discover your personal inclinations and resources connected to teaching outdoors.
  • Gain confidence in play-based learning in an outdoor environment.
  • Create a learning community during the course and after.
